My Board resolution,  A Commitment to Returning Students to In-Person Learning by the First Day of School Year 2021-22

I am pleased to announce that the San Francisco Board of Education has voted unanimously for all SFUSD students to have the option to return to full-time in-person school starting the first day of the 2021-2022 school year, assuming public health guidelines will allow us to.

My resolution, A Commitment to Returning Students to In-Person Learning by the First Day of School Year 2021-22, affirms the Board of Education’s full intention to ensure all students can attend full-time, five days a week, in-person learning on the first day of school this coming August.

Without a doubt, this past year has been full of uncertainty for our students and families. With this unanimous resolution, we are making it clear that the Board is united and focused on providing full-time in-person school.

Since May of last year, I have been actively vocal on the Board about school reopening. This resolution shows that the work of bringing all of our students back by next fall is our number one priority.

In the coming months, I will be actively supporting and monitoring our progress and holding the Board and Dr. Matthews accountable toward our goal.

On Tuesday, May 25, I will provide an update on the following:

  • Staffing for full-time return to in-person learning

  • Facilities adapting to changing SFDPH health guidelines

  • Education recovery plans for students

  • Leveraging and stabilizing District funding

  • Integrated student support services (mental health, counseling, health)
